A Christian Should Not Lie

TEXT: Deut. 5:20 [neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour.]

The word ‘LIE’ means an intentionally false statement; according to Oxford Dictionary. In other words ‘LIE’ means “a false statement deliberately presented as being true; a falsehood”. Alternatively, something meant to deceive or give a wrong impression.

A ‘LIE’ is an abomination unto God. God himself hate lies from the tongue of his creature (MAN). Therefore, He gave a command in Lev. 19:11 “…Do not deceive one another.” He also said in His word “I am the truth” (John 14:6). If we want to follow the footsteps of Christ our Saviour and Lord, we should become truth-tellers. It is also the eight laws in the Ten Commandments which He gave to the children of Israel through Moses-(Exo. 20:16).

The tongue of man was made to glorify God in His goodness and for communication; but man has turned the original aspect of the tongue to something else. We then use the tongue to lie, gossip, etc. John 4:24 says “God is a spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth. If we want our praises and adoration to go before the lord as a sacrifice, we must not lie with the tongue.

The tongue must not be deceitful. It must be honest; it represents speech. It is said, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Prov. 18:21 backbiting, false witness, telling of lies and deceitfulness of the tongue have resulted early grave to many people. God wants us to bridle or curb our tongue. James 3:6.

These three things: actions, feelings and speech represent our true character. Sometimes we use our body to tell lies e.g. some females adding pads to their buttocks just to increase their normal body size to an artificial size in order to deceive men and drag them to bed, and some men behave like women when they practice gay.

Ananias and sapphire his wife conspired together in attempting to deceive the Apostles of Christ in regard to the value obtained for their property (Acts 5:1; 2). Nevertheless, what was the result? The both of them wear dead and buried at the same day as a result of ‘lies’. The wages of sin is death Rom. 6:23 Again in 2Kings 5:21-28, Gehazi followed after Naaman and lied against his master Elisha just for him to receive wealth from Naaman. Moreover, the leprosy that was on Naaman turn back to the household and generation of Gehazi because he lied against the servant of God Elisha.

A lie is a sin and as fornicators, murderers, adulterers, and all sort of immorality doers etc. will go to hell; so also shall a liar go to hell fire. BEWARE

Psalms 24:3-4 “He that hath clean hands and a pure heart, who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully……” according to this passage; if we want to be revived, then we must surrender our HANDS, HEARTS AND TONGUE unto the Lord. Therefore, I appeal to you that let us live a righteous life by speaking the truth always and not lie.
