Functions of Constitution

1. It is the constitution that limits the arbitrary action of the government. This is because the government cannot carry out any action that is contrary to the constitution of the State.
2. The constitution serves as a guarantee of the rights of government to rule since the government was established according to the provisions of the constitution.
3. It expresses the power structure of the state, that is, the structural balance between the centre and the component units or territorial divisions.
4. It states the major objectives of government. This involves the purpose for which government was set up.
5. It protects individual rights of the members of the society. The rights are written down in the constitution for easy reference.
