How to measure a knitting sample

Lay the sample on a flat surface, hold a ruler across it, and place pins at precise intervals of 2.5 cm. Count the number of stitches between the pins, and then measure across 10cm. Again between pins, check that the number of stitches is exactly four times the first number. If not, re-check. If there are too many stitches, the tension will be too tight. Ideally, one should use a larger size needle. If stitches are not many, use a smaller size needle.
