HOW TO SERVE GOD

SERMON DELIVERED BY APOSTLE DR E. T. DODOH (JP) AT THE APOSTOLIC CHURCH NIGERIA 38TH LAWNA ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION FOR THE YEAR 2014

THEME: “SERVING THE LORD IN SINCERITY OF HEART AND IN TRUTH” JOSHUA 24:14
TEXT: HEBREW. 13:15 – 18

INTRODUCTION: There are four spiritual sacrifices, which the Christian as a priest should offer as enumerated in Hebrew. 13:15-18. These four areas of spiritual sacrifices shall be our focus of discussion under this great Topic “HOW TO SERVE GOD”. And they are outlined as:

· PRAISE {Hebrew. 13:15}
· DEEDS OF LOVE [Hebrew. 13:16] · OBEDIENCE AND SUBMISSION UNTO AUTHORITY {Hebrew. 13:17}
· PRAYER [Hebrew. 13:18]

A. PRAISE {Hebrew. 13:15}: Praise and worship must be ascribed unto God. It is said, “What is the most important thing in life?” “To earn a living?” “To acquire higher education?” “To make greater wealth?” The answer is, “To praise God.” Human beings were created to glorify God day by day. Our living should be a song of praise to the Glory of God. 1st Corinthians. 10:31.

It is a pity that the praises of some church members are not acceptable to God because they have wicked tongue. They can shout, dance, and jump in the church in the name of praises but the Bible says that, “The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination unto God.” Proverbs. 15:8. They forget to know that the power of life and death is in the tongue. Proverbs. 18:21. After they have killed, slaughtered and destroyed with their tongues, they come to church to make a lot of noise but because their tongues are wiked, their own praises become abomination unto God. May God help us in Jesus name. let God santify our tongues in Jesus name. Amen.

Sometimes it is easy for us to thank God when we are enjoying the blessings of life but what of when circumstances stare us at face. David said, “I will bless the Lord at all times” Psalm. 34:1. The Bible says, Paul and Silas were thrust into the inner prison with their feet in the stocks, yet they prayed and sang praises unto God. Acts 16:23-28. Let us pray to God; to give us the grace to praise Him at all times.

B. DEEDS OF LOVE [Hebrew. 13:16]: God want us to demonstrate the deeds of love and kindness. Love is the greatest weapon in the universe. When God wanted to save the lost man, He used the weapon of love. No tribe on earth sent delegate to heaven demanding His son but God out of love, sent unto us His only begotten son-for our salvation.

God Himself is LOVE and demands our love. Why are the nations of the world phasing out God, peace and prosperity and phasing in Satan, Rebellion and Poverty?
Our love for humankind is dying away. Nigerians are killing Nigerians-dropping bomb in churches, on the streets in houses here and there-killing ourselves. The kidnappers are people from within Nigeria, kidnapping Nigerians to unknown destinations for absence of love.
This is the time for all Nigerians to be their brothers’ keeper showing love by presenting the gospel to as many as come across your way, converting them from the spirit of violence to everlasting life. Oh, praise the Lord. May God deliver Nigeria in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen

C. OBEDIENCE AND SUBMISSION UNTO AUTHORITY {Hebrew. 13:17}: The Lord Jesus Christ has made Himself a Divine example. He actually obeyed The Father and submitted Himself to Him. Philippians 2:6-11. All the followers of Christ should borrow a leaf from their master.

The pastor indeed must be vigilant and careful of the souls placed under his care. He must endeavor to make serving God attractive and magnetic; an atmosphere where the membership feel at home. Acts 20:19-21, 1st Peter 5:1-4.
As the leaders shall be accountable to God. Gal. 6:6-9. Likewise the led shall be accountable to God for failure to appreciate them. 1st Corinthians. 9:11-14.
It is of great importance to realize that our children and youths need to be given a prior attention. They should be taught the principles and practices or doctrine of the church; especially, to keep them occupied with soul winning. Deuteronomy. 6:4-7, Mark. 10:13-16, Ephesians. 6:4, Matthew 28:18-20, John 15:16.

D. PRAYER [Hebrew. 13:18]: A sacrifice of prayer for the leadership and membership is necessary. Apostle Peter was delivered from prison by the prayer of the saints. Acts 12:5. Paul also prayed for the salvation of Israel. Romans 10:1. We ought to pray for the National President, the Vice, all the Apostles and Prophets, all Ministers of the Gospel, all Members of the Church, God also should convert the unbelievers.

APPLICATION

As long as we live, we shall make the above our daily sacrifices.
