Stocking stitch has a smooth surface and it is made by knitting and purling on alternate rows.
In a knitting pattern, stocking stitch is abbreviated to St. If it were written out in instructions it would look like this:
– 1st row K.all Sts. (knit all stitches)
– 2nd row P.all Sts. (purl all stitches)
Repeat 1st and 2nd rows until work measure as this or that.
Or repeat 1st and 2nd rows as many times as necessary.
