Here, I wish to present a number of outlines of textual sermons. It is not the intention that these outlines shall be followed rigidly rather they serve as guide that will aid the preachers to meet up the demand of this generation.
What is textual sermon? It is when one takes a text and expound or dwell on it to the conclusion. For convenience sake we will share some points of message into a chapter or otherwise as convenient as we can stipulate.
– LOVE TO CHRIST
“I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus”. Acts 21:13.
1. WHAT LOVE TO CHRIST WILL LEAD TO
a. To obedience to Christ. Jn.14:15, 14:21, 14:23.
b. Purity – love to Christ will make to purify himself. IJn.3:3,9, IJn.5:18.
c. Concentration of study about Him. Love to Christ will give the one concern the inner urge to study about Him. Acts 17:11-12, 2Tim. 2:15.
d. Communion with Christ. The one involve must develop a constant habit of communicating with Christ always. Jn. 15:4, 14:13-14. IThess. 5:17.
e. Transformation. Love to Christ must change the lifestyle of the one in His love. IICor. 5:17, Eph. 2:10, 4:24.
f. Love to Christ will lead us to work for Christ. We should have timeless service for Him because of His love. Jn. 9:4, 4:34, Jn. 14:12.
g. Love to Christ, will lead to a lot of sacrifices for Jesus. IICor. 11:24-27.
h. Love to Jesus will lead to frequent and ceaseless proclamation of His great name. Matt. 28:19&20. Mk. 16:15, Jn. 15:16.
2. HOW DO WE LEARN TO LOVE HIM
a. We learn to love Him by dwelling upon His love to us. IJn. 4:19.
b. He is the Holy Spirit that teaches us how to love Jesus. Jn. 14:26, Acts 1:8.
c. We learn to love Jesus at the Lord’s Table. Whosoever partakes on the Lord’s Table shall be participant in His kingdom. Jn. 6:51, 54-57.
– LOVE FOR SOULS
“Therefore watch, and remember, that by the spare of three years I ceased not to warn every one might and day with tears” Acts 20:31.
1. THE IMPORTANCE OF LOVE FOR SOULS
a. It is an essential element of Christ like character. Lk. 19:10.
b. It is necessary to successful efforts for their salvation. ITim. 1:15.
c. Lack of love for souls reveals either great hardness of heart and disobedience to the Lord’s command. Mk. 16:15.
2. HOW MANIFESTED
a. In a deep concern for their salvation. Rom. 10:1.
b. In earnest efforts for their salvation. Eze. 33:7-8.
c. In going out to seek for them. Jn. 15:16.
d. In joy over lost souls saved. Lk. 15:4-7.
e. In sacrifices made to save them. Acts 14:15-20.
