“And he said unto them, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” Mk. 16:15.
Our Lord Jesus Christ is the great commander who gave this command after His resurrection from the death. It is popularly known as the great commission given to His followers. When Jesus was alive before His death, He commanded His disciples to carry the good news to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Matt. 10:5-7. But after His resurrection the feature of the gospel was to all the world. Mk. 16:15-16. The point to make note here is that the great commander who gave the command is the Lord Jesus.
– THE URGENCY OF THE COMMAND
The nature of the command- go. It is an urgent command. It is a command that needs urgency. This is a military language or command. The word go is taken from the Greek word- sunerchomai – (go). It is a word applied to soldiers at war front, who must obey the command of their leader. Christ used this word because of the awful lost condition of the unsaved. Every day the unbeliever dies and go to hell. The fishers of souls must be fast to get them saved before it is too late.
– THE PEOPLE COMMANDED
It was the Apostles and the followers of Christ of the first Christian generation that were given this command. Matt. 28:19-20, Acts 1:6-8. Also the Christians of all ages are included. In other words, every true Christian must realize that one of the purposes of his or her call was to labour for the salvation of others. Jn. 15:16.
– THE SUBSTANCE OF HIS COMMAND
It is the Gospel – Greek evanggelion – GOOD NEWS OR GOOD-TIDING. There is no greater news in all the world than that a sinner condemned to die had been acquitted free. That Christ came to die for the condemned sinner and ask him to go free. ITim. 1:15. In simplicity awaiting the date of his execution when suddenly he hears behind the prison door a sound, it was yourself coming to tell him the good news that he had been acquitted by the chief judge and no more to die. It is a good news indeed. The Gospel comprises three great facts:-
(a) Christ died for the sins of the world (purpose of His death).
(b) He was buried (the legal and public evidence of His death).
(c) He was raised again the third day (the victorious resurrection).
THE COUNTERFEIT GOSPEL
Every preacher must take note that he dose not preach a perverted gospel. The gospel become counterfeit when something is added or taken away from it. Gal. 1:6-9. Eg. The social gospel, the traditional gospel etc.
– THE FIELD OF THE COMMAND AND RECIPIENT.
a. The Gospel is commanded to be preached in the whole world. There is no Geographical demarcation. The good news must cut across every continent, country, nation, tribe, tongue and every people living on the surface of the earth – go into all the world. Mk. 16:15.
b. It must be preached to every creature. The Greek word for creature is – ktisis – thing created. Something that had been made. The Lord Jesus Christ used this words, in order to avoid Racial discrimination in the distribution of the Gospel. It is for the white, the red, the green, the black etc. to the Gospel. It is for the rich and no class of people is exempted.
Conclusion: Be informed that the great commission include both ministers of the Gospel and every true believer in Christ Jesus.
