This is a wonderful question; in-fact I recommend this question as one of the greatest questions in the world as a whole if the world would admit it. Death is one of the events that show that the world does not belong to us-Christians & all human races. Jesus emphasized on death in the bible more than any other person in the bible; but Jesus Christ only warn us to beware of second death (Hell-Fire) and encourage us to die from our mortal body and come to be with Him, in a place well prepared for us by Him. He even quotes, “And do not fear those who can kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell (Matt.10:28 NKJV).” He went ahead saying, “For what profit is it to a man to gain the whole world, and loses his soul in hell? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul-(Matt.16:26 NKJV).”

Mostly, the reasons why some Christians fear death today in our own generation are:

a. They are confused: They don’t know nor may I say they are not sure if they will enter heaven or not.

b. They are after pleasure: As Jesus once said, “For what shall it profit a man to gain the whole World…” Christians nowadays want satisfaction and joy while they are here on earth; making them to forget about the existence of death, and when they are informed; they become afraid of it. In-fact they don’t want to live their present satisfying live. Some believe and quote a fact that says “Eat and merry today for tomorrow we die.” So they fear death.

c.They think death is painful: Many think that death is painful, and I said this because that was my thought also. When I was a little boy, I attended my grandfather’s burial and observe that, my grandfather was lying helplessly without any movement. Probably, that was the first dead I have ever seen live lying in state. So I was thinking that there is life in him but cannot move, and he will be filling pains and struggling to move but cannot. So with my childish thinking, I thought he was in pain. So I begin to imagining life in the grave asking myself, “how do people beneath the earth feeling?” But nowadays I was surprised to hear a grown up woman saying, “I pray I do not die, because death is painful, and because I can’t lie under the earth without breath for long; I am afraid to die.” Little did she and my infancy know that ‘when dead; there are no life/feelings in the mortal body of man.’

In this generation; Most Christians fear death due to the congestions of sin in our surrounding environment or entity. You don’t know when you’ve sinned and when you have not sinned, causing many to fear death.

Death is as a result of sin and a punishment of sin for mankind naturally. Christians today fear death because they heard some stories of their founding fathers, how the die a terrible death. And Christ also informs them that, the world would one day begin to eliminate the faithful ones because they believe on Him. Many began to fear death, because they do not want to die a terrifying bloody death but a cool and peaceful life living.

We are been urged never to fear death because none can escape death.
